Journey with us on Mt. Kilimanjaro and put a child in school for a year. For the same cost as traveling with a standard guided service to Mt. Kilimanjaro, you can join us on one of our remarkable treks to the peak of the African continent while sponsoring a child through a year in a Middle English school.
The children are in great jeopardy in Tanzania. The country is struggling to increase education for its children while dealing with overwhelming poverty. Current public classrooms are about 80 children to a teacher, with little to no educational materials. There are wonderful volunteers that help teach in the schools. Often, the volunteers are doing their internship for a college program in Europe or the United States. They stay for two to three months and are replaced by the next volunteer. We believe that, while this model provides wonderful benefits for both student and teacher, it is lacking in that it doesn’t support sustainable education and continuity of teaching for the mixed skills classrooms of Tanzania.
Our approach is simple. You climb and photograph with us. We present you with a deep cultural immersion. You meet the families and the people that you are going to help. At the end of the climb, we take you to an excellent private “Middle English” school. You directly sponsor one of the porters’ or guides’ children for a year of education. The fee is approximately $700 US, which is part of the overall cost of the trip. You have the option to sponsor more children, or provide for longer time frames as you wish. We recommend that you focus on one child as you will be in contact to help mentor and guide your child throughout the year. After the trip, you will be able to communicate directly via email and a social networking sites to the families, the school and the child. You are the direct supporter and, truly, a special mentor to a child. There are no “middle men”, loss or corruption as you pay the fee directly to the school and sign the child in yourself.
